3 Men Rescued From Sinking Boat One Half-Mile Off Crab Meadow Beach in Huntington

A rough day on the water ended well for three men whose boat was taking on water on the Long Island Sound on Saturday.

The Suffolk County Police Department announced (on their Facebook Page) that Marine Bureau Officers Joseph Lanzisera and Tyler Smith were aboard Marine Bravo when they heard a mayday call for a sinking boat and saw two flares in the vicinity.

Within minutes, they located a partially submerged recreational 21-foot Trophy with three men on board approximately ½ mile north of Crab Meadow Beach in Huntington .

All three passengers (Shawn Davis, 42, Vinson Davis, 56, and McCarthur Barker, 69, all from Hackensack, New Jersey) were wearing life vests and were safely transferred to Marine Bravo. The men and their boat were towed back to shore. No one was injured.

The United States Coast Guard and the Town of Huntington Harbor Master also responded – and the three agencies worked together to pump water out of the boat + tow it to Soundview Boat Ramp in Northport.
