Greenlawn Firefighters Battle Serious House Fire on Lantern Street

In the early morning hours of Thursday, Greenlawn Firefighters battled a very serious house fire on Lantern Street.

At approximately 12:30am, Chief Santomauro along with Asst. Chief Pace were on the scene of the fire which appeared to have started in the attached garage and was being fed by a ruptured gas line.

Fire engines stretched numerous attack lines to the rear of the building to push the fire out the front of the building, in an attempt to help contain it and avoid a total loss of the home.

Due to the size of the fire, along with the extreme temperatures (plus the warm weather), the Greenlawn Fire Department activated numerous neighboring departments, including Huntington Manor FD, Centerport FD, Dix Hills FD, East Northport FD and HCFAS, to assist in the effort.

The fire was brought under control within 45 minutes and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Huntington Town Fire Marshal and Suffolk Police Arson Squad.
