Autumn Daytrips: Best Long Island Places to Pick Apples and Pumpkins Near Huntington

With apple and pumpkin picking season approaching full swing - there's nothing like packing the family and friends into the car (and powering off your smartphone) for a mind-clearing road-trip day full of unplugged autumn mindfulness.

Take a day off from the television and enjoy a picturesque ride beneath canopies of vibrant fall colors on Long Island roads. Let the oranges and reds fill your soul with smiles as sun breaks through the fiery foliage and you catch the faint whisper of wood smoke on the falling-leave breezes.

Head for nostalgic destinations where bushels of apples, sincere pumpkin patches, scarecrows, and the comforting aromas of hot mulled cider and freshly-baked spiced breads evoke cherished memories of autumns past.

Challenge your sense of direction in a harvest-season corn maze. Let the children laugh, and experience nature firsthand, as they interact with the farm animals. Enjoy the slow-going of a tractor-drawn hay ride. Don't forget to taste the apple cider donuts (and the hard cider, itself)!

Before you leave, be certain to procure some maple syrup, jams, and jellies to take home with you. They'll remind you of this amazing day during breakfasts well into the winter months.
