Have you been hoping for additional (or expanded) al fresco dining options in Huntington for this summer?
The Town of Huntington has launched a new process for food establishments that wish to expand their outdoor dining footprint into the shoulder or parking lane of a road.
It all started with a discussion at last week's Huntington Town Board meeting about embracing a new type of "in-street" outdoor dining option that could be made available as an additional COVID-19 recovery resource to assist restaurants in the Town of Huntington.
The new "in-street" dining option, introduced by Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci, for restaurants seeking to expand their outdoor dining into a road's shoulder or parking lane was approved by the board.

"As outdoor gathering limits expand more rapidly than indoor limits," stated Lupinacci, "we are providing flexibility for food establishments that are eligible to safely expand their outdoor dining footprint past the sidewalk into the street with our new Parklet program."
The approval process for outdoor dining and retail on sidewalks -- and the Zoning Board of Appeals approval process for outdoor dining on private property -- was also extended from 2020 into 2021 by the Huntington Town Board.
